![]() Though Radiance isn’t so much a single story than it is a bundle of people’s ideas of what the story was. It starts by posing a few questions with deceptively simple answers: Who is Severin Unck? How did she die? Is she dead? Everything is answered and yet nothing is definite in this interplanetary story. Radiance is no exception as it dances from one planet to another and explains away concepts of space and time with giant “whales” on Venus. That’s always how I’ve been with Valente, with the ideas of her works sucking me in and then the stories proving to be even more fantastical and deserving of my admiration than I could ever imagine they would be.
